The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Engineering Professional Development and the Midwest Regional University Transportation Center plan to offer a new technical course — "Engineering Fundamentals of Rail Transit Passenger Systems" — Feb. 9-11, 2004. The course is part of a new series the university is developing to increase commitment to rail.

The course is designed to teach attendees about how rail systems are designed, operated and maintained for speed comfort, safety, reliability and the economy. It also will teach necessary engineering fundamentals and the latest materials and methods being used. The course is designed to help attendees gain solutions to and discover resources for the challenges to improve passenger-rail systems, according to a prepared statement.
