Association of American Railroads subsidiary Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) and consultant Harris, Miller, Miller & Hanson Inc. (HMMH) recently agreed to jointly offer rail-equipment noise and vibration measurement, testing, analysis and abatement services to the railroad industry.

The firms plan to rely on their rail-equipment testing and evaluation experience to analyze passenger-car comfort and ride quality, and determine if rail-equipment noise complies with federal standards.

During the past 30 years, TTCI has tested most urban transit equipment installed nationwide, and helped a number of transit agencies solve noise and vibration problems. HMMH has evaluated new and existing equipment for equipment builders and urban, inter-city and high-rail operators, and developed noise and vibration guidance manuals for the Federal Railroad and Transit administrations.

TTCI and HMMH plan to develop state-of-the-art measurement and analysis techniques to identify and evaluate noise sources on stationary and moving equipment in near real time, said HMMH Senior Vice President Carl Hanson in a prepared statement.
