On Nov. 1, VIA Rail Canada opened a $770,000 passenger rail intermodal facility providing easier access to train service between Ottawa, Toronto and Kingston, Ontario, and OC Transpo’s Park-and-Ride lot in the Barrhaven area of Ottawa’s southwest end.



VIA currently operates five trains in each direction between Ottawa and Toronto, and Ottawa and Montreal. The Canadian national passenger railway plans to increase service during the next several years to eight trains daily in each direction.



"This … station is part of our commitment to keep growing with the communities we serve — and to make passenger rail a more competitive, more attractive travel option than ever before," said VIA Chairman Jean Pelletier in a prepared statement, adding that the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal triangle is one of VIA’s busiest and fastest growing markets.
