CTA takes final delivery of refurbished cars

advertisement

In 1997, Chicago Transit Authority signed a contract with Alstom to refurbish its subway cars. A series of follow-on contract options and $350 million later, CTA has accepted delivery of the final two of 598 refurbished cars — six months ahead of schedule.

The work performed is designed to extend the 2600 series cars’ operating life by 15 to 20 years. Alstom refurbished the cars at its Hornell, N.Y., facility and delivered the final 108 cars Oct. 23.
