Palisades Group USA and BERG Associates plan to provide practical strategies and procedures to improve public transit operations security through a series of monthly teleconferences beginning Nov. 15 with a workshop on Protecting Public Transit Against Bio-Terrorism.

In the first workshop, Captain Timothy Kelly, Houston METRO Transtar police chief, Ken Harvey, Sound Transit disaster preparedness representative, and Kevin Bowdish, former director of maintenance for Academy Bus Lines in New Jersey, will participate in a roundtable discussion on bio-terrorism at transit facilities.

They’ll be joined by Larry Johnson, BERG Associates chief executive officer, and Dominic Gannon, former director of the U.S. State Department’s office of counter terrorism and a retired U.S. Marine Corps colonel. Eva Lerner-Lam, Palisades Group U.S.A president, will moderate the discussion.

"Local transit personnel represent an untapped resource in the effort to improve security of public transportation systems," said Johnson in a prepared statement. "Our goal is to help local folks understand the reality of the threat and to think in practical terms about positive things they can do to protect public transportation systems and their patrons."

The teleconferences are open to all senior transit managers, operating personnel, law enforcement and others who work in public transportation.

Additional information on the series and online registration is available at www.palisadesgroup.com/PGUSA/NationalTeleconferences.htm.
