An ALSTOM-led joint venture including Carillion and Travaux du Sud-Ouest recently was awarded a $189 million contract to supply track and an overhead catenary system for section 2 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) in the United Kingdom.

Union Railways (North) Ltd. manages CTRL, which would link Central London to Paris and Brussels, Belgium, by a high-speed rail line.

Section 2, a 25-mile segment extending from north Kent to St. Pancras in central London, is expected to cost $5.2 billion to complete.

CTRL is scheduled for completion in 2007.
