Bay Area Rapid Transit and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Oct. 23 reached a tentative settlement, averting a threatened strike.



BART presented AFSCME its best and final offer Oct. 8, which Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1555 and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 790 both accepted in late September; AFSCME Oct. 15 rejected the offer.



The agreement maintains BART’s best and final offer, but contains modified language addressing areas of concern to AFSCME members. Employees with all three unions will receive a 22 percent cumulative wage increase over the four-year life of the agreement.



The settlement still is subject to ratification by AFSCME and BART board members.
