BART to power up third rail on SFO extension

advertisement

Bay Area Rapid Transit plans to give its 8.7-mile extension to San Francisco International Airport some juice Feb. 16 when the agency receives the first delivery of bulk electrical power from PG&E, energizing the third rail between Colma and San Bruno, Calif., for five days.

More than 95 percent of the civil construction work is complete on the SFO extension, which includes four stations: South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae and inside the airport.

BART plans to test the electrical power supply during the next several months and has set up a temporary control center, which would be independent of BART’s Central Control and used exclusively for testing purposes.

The line is scheduled to open late this fall.
