Paris Transport Authority orders trainsets from consortium

Paris Transport Authority (RATP) July 3 ordered 161 metro trains from a consortium comprising Alstom Transport, Bombardier Transport and Technicatome for $589 million.

The trains, MF 2000, would replace about 40 percent of RATP’s current 30-year-old metro fleet, beginning in 2005.

The new trainsets would have five cars — three motorized by ONIX™ traction — and seat between 92 and 112 passengers.

The consortium plans to build the cars in Valenciennes, France. A pre-series train would be delivered in December 2003 for testing on Line 2 of the Paris metro. By mid-2004, full production would begin, and the first series of trains for Line 2 would be delivered by December 2005. Line 5 deliveries would begin in 2008; Line 9, mid-2011. Final deliveries would be scheduled for December 2015.
