Amtrak Nov. 2 unveiled at Chicago Union Station the first of 85 long-distance diesel locomotives built by GE Transportation Systems.

Each locomotive is powered by a 16-cylinder engine equipped with electronic fuel injection and features cab signaling, segmented fuel tanks and automatic parking brakes. The power units also feature Amtrak’s new corporate logo, replacing the inverted arrow, which has represented the company since 1971.

GE Transportation plans to deliver the remaining 84 locomotives over the next 12 months, completing the $200 million order.
