California funds let for station expansion

Another piece of the Bay Area Rapid Transit-San Francisco International Airport project is falling into place. Last month, BART and San Francisco Municipal Railway officials joined San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and State Assemblyman Kevin Shelley in announced the award of $6 million in state funds for Phase I of the Balboa Park BART Station Expansion Project.
Phase I includes reconfiguring existing faregates, adding additional ones and installing BART ticket vending machines.
Expansion plans include a new entrance, additional stairway, escalator, elevator and station agent booth.
The $6 million in funds are incorporated in "trailer" bills introduced by State Assemblyman Tom Torlakson and State Senator Deborah Ortiz.
