Wrapping it up: BART cars sport new look to promote ridership during smog season

Some Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) cars are getting a makeover. The agency is wrapping seven of its vehicles in a sky blue sign that reads, "Spare the Air, Ride BART."

The car wraps are part of a new air quality awareness program launched by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and Bay Area Air Quality Management District to encourage people to ride BART during summer smog season.

The program will help protect billions of transportation dollars earmarked for the bay area, according to a prepared statement.

Between June 21 and Oct. 15, BART will offer free weekday morning commute service during the first five Spare the Air days announced by the Air District. MTC and the air quality district will use federal dollars to refund BART for the free rides.
