Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority recently awarded a $32.3 million contract to Switzerland’s Stadler Bussnang AG to provide six GTW articulated passenger cars. The contract includes an option to purchase 12 additional vehicles.

The cars will operate on Capital Metro’s 32-mile Austin-to-Leander, Texas, commuter-rail line, which is scheduled to open in January 2008.

The self-propelled, 225-passenger-capacity vehicles will feature two diesel electric engines, and reduce noise and vibration levels compared with typical commuter-rail cars.

Stadler will deliver the vehicles between fall 2007 and spring 2008.
