Utah Transit Authority (UTA) recently awarded a $29 million contract to Bombardier Transportation to design, manufacture and deliver 12 bi-level commuter-rail vehicles.

UTA will use the cars on a new commuter-rail line between North Weber County and Salt Lake City. The contract includes an option for up to 23 additional cars.

Bombardier will build the vehicles at its Thunder Bay, Ontario, and Plattsburgh, N.Y., facilities, and deliver the cars between June and October 2006.
