Rail News: Passenger Rail

LIRR to add trains on several lines

advertisement

On March 6, MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will add trains to provide more service on several lines.

The railroad will add a morning rush hour train on the Ronkonkoma Branch that will depart Ronkonkoma at 7:40 a.m. and arrive at Flatbush Avenue at 9:01 a.m. The train will replace the Jamaica-to-Flatbush Avenue shuttle train. LIRR also will add an eastbound train that will depart Penn Station at 3:01 p.m. and arrive in Ronkonkoma at 4:21 p.m.

On the Babylon Branch, the agency will replace the 5 a.m. Babylon-to-Penn Station train with two trains — one departing at 5:18 a.m. from Wantagh and arriving at Penn Station at 6:08 a.m., and one departing at 5:12 a.m. from Babylon and arriving at Penn Station at 6:14 a.m.

In addition, LIRR will replace the 5:02 a.m. diesel train running between Speonk and Babylon with dual-mode equipment so the train can move directly to Penn Station and customers won’t have to transfer at Babylon. The railroad also will add two eastbound and one westbound late-evening trains on the Montauk Branch.

Finally, LIRR will increase the frequency of weekend trains on the Huntington and Port Washington branches from hourly to twice per hour.
