MTA Metro-North Railroad won’t have to devise a strike preparation plan after all. Yesterday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced the agency reached a tentative agreement with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 808, which represents 601 Metro-North track, bridge and building workers.
Details of the agreement, which would be retroactive to January 2003 and run through July 2010, weren’t disclosed. Union members will conduct a ratification vote June 22.
The contract is the last of several labor agreements Metro-North has ironed out this year. In April and May, the agency reached agreements with a handful of unions covering about 4,100 workers. If Metro-North had not reached an agreement with the Teamsters local by July 15, the union by law could have launched a strike.
