The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Metro Transit Police Department is in the midst of a comprehensive assessment to evaluate practices and procedures, develop performance measures and identify department needs. Police Chief Michael Taborn initiated the assessment when he took over the department in March

To be complete this summer, the assessment will provide the department necessary information to develop a long-term plan to reduce crime throughout the system, strengthen relationships with passengers and employees, and improve emergency preparedness measures, WMATA said. The five-year plan is scheduled to be complete by year’s end.
