advertisement
On Monday, California's North County Transit District marked the first anniversary of the SPRINTER light-rail system.
The 22-mile, 15-station line runs between Oceanside and Escondido, and features diesel multiple unit trains. During the first 11 months of service, SPRINTER carried more than 2 million passengers, averaging about 7,300 trips each weekday — four times the number of riders that used an old express bus route, which the train replaced.
