S.F. bay-area commission to revise 2035 transportation plan

Last week, the San Francisco Bay Area's Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) was expected to approve the region's long-range transportation plan. Instead, the commission decided to hold off on final approval for another month and reopen public comment on the draft Transportation 2035 plan because of a drop in projected revenue.

Due to declining sales tax revenue and state budget issues that will affect transit funding, MTC staff expects long-term funding from state, local and federal sources to drop from $226 billion to $218 billion between 2010 and 2035. As a result, MTC has proposed several changes to the draft plan, such as reviewing overlapping services and developing new operating revenue sources.
