• Siemens Mobility signed a master agreement with The Danish State Railway (DSB) to supply up to 100 Desiro Classic DMU regional trains. Starting in October 2010, Siemens will deliver eight units, with an option for 92 more. The contract value wasn’t disclosed. The multiple units, which will be built at Siemens’ plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany, will be used on the Grenaabahn line serving Aarhus on the Djursland peninsula.

• Bombardier Transportation received a contract to supply 16 BOMBARDIER FLEXITY 2 trams to the city of Blackpool in the United Kingdom. Funded by the Department for Transport, Blackpool Council and Lancashire County Council, the contract is valued at $54 million. Bombardier will manufacture the vehicles at sites in Bautzen, Germany, and Vienna, Austria. The vehicles are scheduled to be delivered between May 2011 and March 2012.

• HNTB Corp. named Randy Wade director of Midwest regional rail/senior project manager and Frank O’Keefe, senior rail services specialist. For the past 18 years, Wade served as passenger rail manager for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He also chaired the Midwest Regional Rail Initiative Steering Committee, a nine-state effort to develop a regional passenger rail system in the Midwest. O’Keefe previously served as technical director-track maintenance, ROC, for the Taiwan High-Speed Rail Corp. He also was depot manager/deputy resident engineer for CANARAIL on the Taiwan High-Speed Rail Project for the section from Taipei to Miaoli; held various positions with other engineering firms; and was a track supervisor for Amtrak’s Boston Division.

• ProTran1 received a contract from the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) to pilot a Vehicle Cell Phone “texting” Notification System. Part of the ProTran1 ProTracker, the system is designed to detect unauthorized use of cell phones texting in an operator’s cab and sound an audible warning. The system also can automatically notify a supervisor or control center. If the pilot is successful, MTA plans to outfit its entire fleet with the technology, according to a ProTran1 statement.

• ALK Technologies Inc. has integrated its PC*MILER® Solutions routing, mileage and mapping software with Oracle® Transportation Management 6.0. Oracle Transportation Management is a transportation management system designed to streamline planning, execution, financial settlement, visibility and business process automation across all transportation modes. The integration involves numerous PC*MILER products, including PC*MILER|Streets, PC*MILER|Rail, and PC*MILER|Worldwide.
