South Florida RTA receives stimulus dollars to buy locomotive

advertisement

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recently awarded the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) $2.5 million in stimulus funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The agency will use the Urbanized Area Formula funds to purchase one locomotive.

SFRTA has applied for a second stimulus grant of $13.5 million under the act’s Rail and Fixed Guideway Funds category. If the application is approved, the agency will use proceeds to purchase four additional locomotives.

SFRTA already has ordered 10 new cab cars and four new trailer cars; two cab cars are scheduled for delivery by year’s end. The procurement is funded by the FTA, Florida Department of Transportation, and Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.
