• Stadler Winterthur AG has delivered the first of 21 dual-frequency electric shunting locomotives to the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). The locomotives will replace Ee 3/3 series vehicles, which are between 40 and 70 years old. All 21 of the locomotives, which will feature the designation “Ee 922,” will be delivered by 2010’s end. SBB awarded the $36.9 million contract to Stadler Winterthur in December 2007.

• Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) obtained a contract from design-build firm Austin Bridge & Road L.P. to provide engineering design services for a 4.5-mile double-track extension of Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Blue Line. PB will serve as the lead engineering firm, providing civil, trackwork, structural, architectural, geotechnical and certain systems engineering design services. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year on the light-rail extension, with revenue service starting in December 2012.

• URS Corp. won a contract from the city of Dallas to manage its Capital Development Program at Dallas Love Field Airport. URS will help the city manage $1 billion worth of various design and construction projects, including the potential construction of an automated people mover system between Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Love Field station and the Love Field terminal building.

• AnsaldoBreda obtained a $120 million contract from Brazil’s Secretaria da Infraestrutura do Estado do Ceará to provide 20 electric trains and additional equipment for the Fortaleza metro. The trains will be used on a new METROFOR system line slated to open by 2010’s end. The trains are designed to reach a top speed of 75 mph and accommodate 445 passengers.
