Last week, New York Gov. David Paterson today announced the state obtained a $39 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant to facilitate the complete reconstruction of MTA Metro-North Railroad’s Tarrytown station.

Built in 1890 and the second-busiest station on the Hudson Line, the Tarrytown facility will be the last of 16 stations to be demolished and rebuilt as part of the Hudson Line Stations Improvement Project.

To be completed by spring 2012, the project calls for replacing the entire platform and both pedestrian overpasses. In addition, two elevators will be replaced and a third will be added to serve a west side parking area.

Earlier this month, state and Metro-North officials awarded a construction contract to Yonkers Contracting Corp. Construction management for platform work — which will begin immediately — will be handled by URS Corp.
 
The project also includes renovations to the station building, including a new slate roof, gutters and canopy supports. AECOM Technology Corp. designed the restoration work, which will be managed by Agency Construction.

Meanwhile, the state of New York earlier this week applied for $565 million in ARRA funding for 38 passenger-rail projects, including $200 million for high-speed rail projects.

Among the funding requests, the state is seeking $91.2 million to build a second track between Amtrak stations in Rensselaer and Schenectady; $38.7 million to improve track and signaling at the Rensselaer station to help reduce delays; and $26.8 million to improve the Adirondack corridor from Albany to Montreal.
