• Parsons Brinckerhoff received a construction management contract from the Chicago Transit Authority for an $88 million rail replacement and tunnel rehabilitation project on the system’s Blue Line subway, which connects the downtown business district with O’Hare International Airport. Fully funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the project includes the replacement of 31,000 wood half ties with concrete half ties, and 6,200 track feet of stone ballast with new concrete slab and direct fixation fasteners; the installation of 29,000 track feet of new rail and 44,000 linear feet of new contact rail; and the reconstruction of two track crossovers.

• Watco Transportation Services Inc. awarded Colo Railroad Builders contracts to surface about 100 miles of track for two short lines: the South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad and the Yellowstone Valley Railroad.

• Alan Talbot joined LTK Engineering Services’ recently launched Operations Simulation & Analysis practice as manager of software engineering. Based in LTK’s Lebanon, N.H., office, Talbot will be responsible for managing the development of LTK’s TrainOps™ simulation software, which supports analysis of rail operations and electrification.
