Last week, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) and Federal Transportation Administrator Peter Rogoff announced a $75 million federal grant agreement for the Portland streetcar system expansion — the first streetcar project to be funded through the federal Small Starts Program.
Portland plans to extend the downtown streetcar system across the Willamette River and into the city’s east side.
“With more than 80 streetcar projects under way across the nation, Small Starts provides a federal funding source for communities working to provide more commuting options,” said Blumenauer in a prepared statement.
