• Siemens Mobility recently received an order from the Russian Railways (RZD) to supply 54 regional trains for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. The order is worth up to $833 million. So far, RZD has placed a “firm” $588.8 million order for the first 38 Desiro type trains, which will be manufactured at Siemens’ Krefeld, Germany, plant; a “preliminary contract” has been signed for an additional 16 units, which will be “partly built,” in Russia, according to a prepared statement.

• An AECOM Technology Corp.-led joint venture recently was awarded an $18 million contract by New Jersey Transit’s board for the Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement project. The contract covers construction management consultant services for “early action elements of a planned 7.5-year assignment,” valued at about $94 million overall, according to a prepared statement. The AECOM-STV joint venture will provide construction management services for a $1.7 billion project to replace the two-track, 99-year-old Portal Bridge swing span over the Hackensack River on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. Two new two- and three-track fixed bridges will replace the existing structure. Construction is expected to begin in late spring; the replacement bridges are slated for completion in 2017.

• RailComm recently provided a wireless remote control yard system at CSX Transportation’s Osborn Yard in Louisville, Ky. Configured to control switches individually as well as provide eNtrance eXit (NX) routing functionality, RailComm’s Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) system provides remote control to several GE Transportation HydraSwitch machines. RailComm’s 2.4 GHz RADIANT™ data radios provide a wireless communications network to link the office with field locations.

• Neil Gambow, president of Kelso (USA) Technologies Inc., recently was appointed to Kelso Technologies Inc.’s board.
