• Boatright Cos. recently promoted Alison Potts Shirley to president of Boatright Vegetation Management L.L.C. In addition to her new role, Shirley will continue to serve as vice president and director of marketing and government affairs.

• AzulStar Inc. has completed a WiMAX 4G rail network, which provides high-speed Internet services aboard the New Mexico Department of Transportation RailRunner system. The network provides Internet access for commuters while on the train and at the stations. It also supports a variety of on-train system operations.

• Ansaldo STS has received a $58.3 million contract from the Genoa local authority to extend the depot at Dinegro station on the Genoa metro. The work is intended to prepare both the sheltered/shunting area and the maintenance workshop for the metro’s new 34-meter trains. The work is scheduled to be completed by March 31, 2012.

• Thales has received a contract from Dubai metro operator RTA to install the access control system for a third car park connecting to the Dubai green line.

• Global Railway Industries Inc. has reported total 2009 revenue of $66.5 million compared with $61.8 million in 2008. The company also reported a net loss of $6.8 million in 2009 vs. a net loss of $1.7 million in 2008.

• Bombardier reported revenue of $19.4 billion for the fiscal year ending Jan. 31, 2010, compared with $19.7 billion in the prior fiscal year. Bombarier Transportation’s revenues totaled $10 billion compared with $9.8 billion the previous fiscal year. “Against a challenging economic backdrop, we delivered good financial results,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Pierre Beaudoin, in a prepared statement.

• Primus Electronics Corp.’s railroad division manager John Charles “Jack” McNutt died March 17 in Greenwood, Ill. He was 69. McNutt worked in the telecommunications industry for 42 years; for the New York Central Railroad from 1960-61; and later as a locomotive engineer and communications consultant at Louisville & Indiana Railroad before joining Primus Electronics.
