Ridership in two of California's three state-sponsored Amtrak routes reported gains last month while the third fell off slightly from last year's numbers.

April ridership on the Pacific Surfliner route rose 6.8 percent to 234,158. Revenue jumped 9.7 percent compared with the same month last year.

On the San Joaquins line, ridership totaled 84,044, up 6.2 percent vs. April 2009, with revenue up 18.2 percent.

However, Capitol Corridor ridership dipped 0.5 percent to 137,871. Revenue for the month was 5.7 percent below projections, but up 1.9 percent from April 2009, with year-to-date revenue up 0.4 percent compared with the same 2009 period.

Capitol Corridor officials continue to point to the ongoing mandate of three Friday furlough days per month for state government employees as the greatest impediment to ridership gains, according to a press release.
