Las Vegas’ two planned passenger-rail lines, Las Vegas Railway Express Inc. (X Train) and the Z-Train Ltd., recently took additional steps toward launching service between Sin City and southern California.

X Train has contracted Carpenter/Sellers/Del Gatto as its chief architectural design firm. The contract includes site design and planning for the X Train terminal in Las Vegas, as well as interior design concepts for passenger and amenity cars.

X Train also contracted Allen & Caron Inc. to handle the railroad’s investor relations and corporate communications functions. Under the contract, the agency will develop an outreach program to increase visibility in the investment community and business/financial media, X Train officials said in a prepared statement.

X Train plans to re-establish “Vegas” style passenger train service between Las Vegas and Los Angeles beginning in late 2011.

Meanwhile, Z-Train hired Jack Pearson to serve as the owner’s representative for the acquisition, design and rebuilding of the Z-Train passenger-rail fleet. Pearson previously served Amtrak for more than 35 years.

Z-Train plans to offer regularly-scheduled, round-trip service between Las Vegas and southern California six days a week. The service will feature bi-level dome and luxury cars providing dining, lounge, retail and entertainment options beginning in December 2011, Z-Train officials said in a prepared statement.
