• Alstom Transport and Transmashholding have been contracted by the Russian Railways to supply 200 EP20 dual-system passenger locomotives from 2012 through 2020. The first models will be released in 2011 for testing and certification. In 2012-13, the first 36 locomotives will enter service and be used on the Moscow-to-Sochi line, including during the Olympic Winter Games.

• Bombardier Transportation recently hosted a demonstration of TrackSafe, a technology designed to reduce dangers associated with subway track inspections and repair. TrackSafe uses RFID and other wireless technologies to create improved location awareness for track workers and train operators in subway operations, Bombardier officials said in a prepared statement. Bombardier also recently was contracted by Saudi Oger Ltd. to supply, install, operate and maintain a 2.2-mile Bombardier Innovia Monorail 300 system for the King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Under the $241 million pact, Bombardier will design and supply all system-wide electrical and mechanical elements for the six-station monorail system, including 12 cars with automatic train control technology. The project is expected to be completed in 2012.

• Pandrol Ltd. has been contracted to supply 440,000 FASTCLIP FD concrete-tie sets for the refurbishment of the Trans Asia “missing link” in the northwest section of Cambodia, and the replacement of timber ties in south Cambodia. The $118 million project calls for rebuilding and repairing 405 miles of lines from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh and from Phnom Penh to Poipet. Pandrol also announced that the Iraqi Railways has adopted PANDROL FASTCLIP elastic rail fasteners as a standard as it rehabilitates and replaces large areas of its network. Pandrol fasteners also will be used in the Kartal project, which involves the construction of a 13.7-mile, 16-station metro-rail line on the Asian side of Istanbul. In addition, Pandrol subsidiary IAT Ltda received a contract for the fastening system for the first phase of the Transnordestina project, which includes 745.6 miles of single track connecting the harbor of Suape to Eliseu Trindade, Brazil. Track installation is expected to start in June 2011 and take 21 months to complete.

• Hollysys Automation Technologies Ltd. has received a $4.6 million contract from Chengdu Railway Bureau in China to supply the high-speed railway with its ground-based high-speed signaling system on a 111.8-mile section of the line from Suining to Dazhou. The system is scheduled to be operational by September.
