Toronto breaks ground on Union Station improvements

On Friday, the city of Toronto began a project aimed at revitalizing Union Station.

The $605.3 million project calls for expanding the GO Transit concourse to accommodate an expected doubling of GO passengers by 2030; restoring historical aspects of the main building; refurbishing the west wing for the relocation of Metrolinx’s head office; constructing a new northwest PATH connection that will join the northwest corner of Union Station to Wellington Street; enhancing pedestrian concourses to improve traffic flow; and creating a new lower retail level below the station.

The project is expected to be completed in 2015. The federal government, province of Ontario and city will provide the majority of project funding.
