On Wednesday, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) plans to begin offering access to the agency’s data for use in developing third-party applications for the Internet and mobile devices.
The idea: to provide riders with improved access to real-time data, make data more accessible to people with disabilities, and provide riders with better regional, multi-modal transportation information, WMATA officials said in a prepared statement.
The data will include real-time next train arrival information, Metrorail line and station details, service disruptions, and escalator and elevator outages.
