The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) recently announced that its tentative three-year agreement was not ratified by Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) members.

ATU represents 1700 full- and part-time GCRTA employees, including train and bus operators, mechanics and support personnel. The union members comprise 79 percent of the agency's staff, said GCRTA Publications Manager Mary McCahon in an email.

The rejected contract would have frozen wages at current levels for the first 18 months and tied wage hikes for the next 18 months to revenue increases. The tentative agreement also would have increased employee contribution levels for healthcare by 2 percent, GCRTA officials said in a prepared statement.

The agency and union have tried to negotiate and install a new contract the past 13 months.
