Canada to cover one-third of Ontario rapid transit system's cost

Yesterday, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the federal government will provide up to $265 million to help fund a light-rail line between Waterloo and Kitchener, Ontario, and a bus rapid transit system between Kitchener and Cambridge, Ontario.

The government will provide funding through the Building Canada Plan for the entire rapid transit system, which is expected to be operational by 2015. The federal dollars will cover about one-third of the system’s cost.
