California’s Capitol Corridor reported ridership of 138,739 in August, up 5 percent compared with August 2009. August’s revenue rose 3 percent from the year-ago period.

The increase in ridership occurred despite the governor’s reinstatement of three Friday furloughs per month for state employees in August, Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) officials said in a prepared statement.

However, other California intercity passenger-rail lines saw a slight decrease in ridership. The Pacific Surfliners service registered ridership of 261,590 in August, down 0.7 percent from August 2009 and the San Joaquin line posted ridership of 82,992, down 1.7 percent from the year-ago period.

Meanwhile, the CCJPA announced it has reached an agreement with Amtrak on the budget for the fiscal-year 2010-11 operating contract, which would take effect Oct. 1. However, the FY2011 operating contract cannot be executed without an adopted state budget.
