APTA to urge Congress to increase public transportation funding

On Wednesday, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) plans to convene in Washington, D.C., to urge Congress to increase public transportation funding by passing a multi-year surface transportation bill.

On the heels of President Obama’s proposal to provide $50 billion for transportation infrastructure improvements nationwide and House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chair James Oberstar’s pledge to support infrastructure investments, APTA plans to represent citizens and public transit agencies from across the country in seeking further funding commitment from the federal government, APTA officials said in a prepared statement.

The delegation plans to present a petition signed by citizens from every state.

SAFETEA-LU, the previous multi-year surface transportation bill, expired nearly a year ago.
