Fort Worth's T signs off on strategic plan

Yesterday, the Forth Worth Transportation Authority’s (The T) board passed a resolution endorsing a new long-range strategic plan to improve public transportation services in Tarrant County, Texas.

During The T’s 11-month outreach process, agency officials were told that adding more commuter-rail service to the area — including the completion of the SW-2-NE line between Fort Worth and DFW Airport — was one of the most important priorities. The T currently operates Trinity Railway Express (TRE) service between Dallas and Forth Worth in partnership with Dallas Area Rapid Transit.

The strategic plan calls for completing the SW-2-NE line, as well as a rail feasibility study for southeast Fort Worth, during the next five years. During the next five to 10 years, The T plans to implement express service on the TRE, and longer term, the agency will build and operate additional rail corridors, according to the strategic plan.

Also included in the plan: creating more transit connections throughout the county; making regional travel more seamless; developing an online trip-planning service; providing real-time information at transit stations; and developing land near stations and along transit corridors.
