APTA: House passes continuing resolution; Senate to vote on commuter benefit tax credit

Last week, the House passed a continuing resolution that extends federal programs, including surface transportation programs, at fiscal-year 2010 levels through Sept. 30, 2011.

The bill has been sent to the Senate, which is expected to amend the bill to become an omnibus appropriations bill, according to the American Public Transportation Association.

In addition, a procedural vote is scheduled in the Senate today on a tax bill that would extend the federal commuter benefit tax credit at the current $230 monthly level for one year. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act raised the amount of pretax income that workers enrolled in employer-sponsored commuter benefits can use to pay for mass transit from $120 to $230 per month.
