The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has completed platform repairs at the Shady Grove Metrorail station, which is part of a larger Red Line rehabilitation program that runs through 2013.

The work, which involved replacing deteriorated sections of platform edges with new concrete, began on Dec. 17 and was completed three days ahead of schedule, WMATA officials said in a prepared statement.

In spring, construction crews will replace the platform tiles. The Red Line rehab program "is focused on bringing the rail system back to a state of good repair to help ensure and improve service reliability," WMATA officials said.
