In 2010, MTA Metro-North Railroad ridership increased 1.5 percent, resulting in the agency's second-highest ridership of all time, agency officials said in a prepared statement.
Metro-North provided 81.1 million trips, exceeded only in 2008, when 83.3 million riders used the service. In addition, Metro-North reported an on-time performance record of 97.7 percent in 2010, the sixth consecutive year that trains achieved on-time performance at 97.5 percent or higher.
Meanwhile, two Brooklyn elected officials have indicated MTA Metro-North will receive $3 million for capital improvements to the Fourth Avenue rail station in Brooklyn. The project will include new platform edges, canopies, drains, lighting, windows and roofing for the 78-year-old station.
