Members of the United Steelworkers TC Local 1976 have ratified two agreements with the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (ONTC).
The contracts, valid from Jan. 1, 2011, through Dec. 31, 2014, provide a cumulative wage increase of 3.5 percent to 5 percent over the four years, depending on cost-of-living increases. In addition, the pacts include work rule improvements and increases to entry wage rates for new employees hired as customer sales service agents, union and ONTC officials said in a joint statement.
Eighty-six percent of locomotive engineers and conductors and 83 percent of customer sales service agents and rail traffic controllers voted in favor of the new contracts.
The pacts will cover more than 115 USW TC Local 1976 employees who live and work throughout ONTC’s northeastern Ontario service territory.
