Members of the United Transportation Union (UTU) and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) have ratified contracts with the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad (MBCR).

The BLET agreement provides general wage increases worth 13.7 percent over the life of the four-year contract. The agreement runs through June 30, 2013, with retroactive pay dating to 2009.

The agreement also provides engineers with increased certification allowances and instructor allowances, and a $1,000 signing bonus.

The UTU four-year agreement covers wages, benefits and working conditions for conductors and assistant conductors. The agreement is retroactive to July 2009, and may be reopened for amendment in July 2013, according to the UTU. Included in the contract are retroactive pay, a signing bonus, a 13.7 percent overall wage increase by July 2013, certification pay for conductors and a cap on health care cost-sharing.

Operated by Veolia Transportation, MBCR transports more than 131,000 riders daily between Boston and outlying areas.
