CN has issued its third annual report that highlights the Class I's achievements in governance, safety, human resources, community involvement and environmental sustainability.

Sustainability is a strategic priority for CN, company officials said in a prepared statement. CN’s key sustainability initiatives include:

• increasing locomotive fuel efficiency through fleet renewal and technology that reduces diesel consumption;
• extending fuel efficiency to all equipment, such as intermodal cranes and yard tractors;
• implementing a clean right-of-way policy across its North American network;
• operating clean and safe facilities that reduce waste;
• extending modal shift protocols to new jurisdictions; and
• encouraging environmental values and initiatives among its North American employees.
