The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) board has authorized the agency’s executive staff to negotiate an amendment to the Dunn Loring-Merrifield Metrorail Station joint development agreement to expedite construction of a proposed transit-oriented development.

“The project increases the number of bus bays and parking spaces for Metro customers, improves access to the station for vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists, and will result in an attractive, mixed use, transit-oriented development” at the station, said Steve Goldin, WMATA’s real estate director, in a prepared statement.

Sale of a portion of the property will provide developer financing to expand parking and additional bus bays at no cost to WMATA. Retail development on the site retained by WMATA will provide lease revenue that the agency will deposit into the Transit Infrastructure Investment Fund, officials said.
