The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has submitted a notice to bidders for the construction of a new Orange line T station in Somerville, Mass., according to Federal Realty Investment Trust officials.
The station will be the first built on the Orange line since the Southwest Corridor stations were built in 1987, the officials said in a prepared statement.
The new station will be built in the Assembly Row neighborhood and be a cornerstone of Federal Realty’s new mixed-use neighborhood in Somerville, they said. Construction of the new T could begin as soon as fall 2011 and be completed in 2014.
