Metrolink launches 16 new trains, adds express and light-night service

Today, Metrolink added 16 new trains to its system, including four that will operate as an express service.

In addition, the agency plans to expand the routes of two early-morning trains to the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif. Metrolink also adjusted the schedules of Orange County and San Bernardino line trains to connect with early morning trains to the airport.

The cost of new services will be offset by operational savings and an anticipated increase in fare revenue as a result of increased ridership, Metrolink officials said in a prepared statement.

“Our new service expansion provides southern Californians even more options to save time and money by taking public transportation,” Metrolink Chairman Richard Katz said.
