Metrolink OKs new ticketing options

Metrolink has approved new fare options, including unlimited system-wide weekend passes for $10 and new discounts for students. Unlimited weekend rides also will be added to monthly pass holders at no additional cost.

In addition, Metrolink will offer a 10-percent discounts to students purchasing one-way and round-trip tickets, as well as a new seven-day pass option. Metrolink plans to discontinue a 10-trip ticket.

The new options will take effect July 1.

Metrolink’s board approved the changes May 13 after receiving feedback from riders at public hearings and through other outreach efforts.

“The seven-day pass will reduce the usage of validators, which will make [it] even more convenient for passengers by eliminating a step before boarding the train and save the agency in maintenance costs,” said Metrolink Chairman Richard Katz in a prepared statement. “Going forward, we expect to collect a significant amount of revenue that would have been lost due to misuse of the 10-trip ticket.”
