State, local and Amtrak officials gathered in Sedalia, Mo., last week to mark the completion of a 10-year project to update and improve an historic Missouri Pacific Railroad station.

The $1.6 million project called for upgrading 125-year-old Sedalia Station, which services Amtrak’s daily Missouri River Runner service. Work included construction of a new entrance, parking lot and waiting room, as well as a platform that’s compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Amtrak officials said in a prepared statement.

The project was funded by the city of Sedalia, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, Amtrak and the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Missouri River ridership has increased 15 percent since October 2010, officials said. Ridership jumped 20 percent in April compared with April 2010.
