Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and local officials recently marked the completion of a $68.3 million modernization project at the State Street Station.

The station now has two fully accessibly entrances and provides a “seamless” connection between the Blue and Orange lines, MBTA officials said in a prepared statement.

The entrances include new stairs, elevators and station support spaces with underground access, as well as automated fare collection equipment. Additional work included lengthening the platforms to accommodate six-car trains.

In the 1990s, MBTA initiated several projects designed to bring the system and its stations into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act standards, including the Blue Line modernization project.
