Utah Transit Authority expands district, awards fastener contract

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) board recently approved an expansion of the agency’s service district to include all of Utah County.

The annexation followed the Utah County Commission’s June 7 decision to increase sales taxes in some areas of the county. As a result, the entire county will pay into the transit district fund, UTA officials said in a statement on the district’s web site.

Prior to the change, Utah County cities had to approve the sales tax increase and annexation requests individually. UTA now will collect a little more than half a percent on each cent collected in sales tax throughout the county, which will help to support FrontRunner commuter-rail services.

Meanwhile, UTA has awarded a three-year fastener contract to Lawson Products, which will supply various fasteners, including a minimum of 2,500 different products such as bolts, hex head cap screws, miniature fasteners, nuts, screws, socket products and washers.
